While many photographers shoot Mount Chephren from the lakeshore, I had a different composition in mind—one I had scouted before along the creek flowing out of the lake. The challenge? Reaching this spot required chest waders, as the fast-moving creek could reach waist-deep in places. As I arrived, the pre-dawn glow intensified, and heavy clouds swirled around the mountain. I quickly donned my waders, crossed the icy water, and moved closer, only to be left speechless by what I found—giant ice shelves covered in delicate frost flowers, creating the most incredible textures I had ever seen. Setting up my shot, I waited as the clouds shifted, hoping for a break in the light. Forty-five minutes after sunrise, the first rays finally pierced through, casting a dramatic glow on the peak. The wait was worth it.
